St. Louis: Parish Book Exhibit

Sunday,
August 30:

Emily and Sr. Rebecca went to St. Gianna's Parish for a book exhibit. St. Gianna's is such a new parish that they don't even have a church yet! They have Mass in an old shopping center while they wait to build their church. There were many young families, and they were very happy to see us. They especially liked our book about St. Gianna!

St. Louis: Adoration with Young Adult Group

Thursday,
August 27:

Emily and Sr. Emi went to a meeting of the "Spirit and Truth" group at Annunciation Parish in St. Louis. This is a group for young adults that meets once a week for Eucharistic Adoration. To start, everyone introduced themselves and answered the question, "How was grace at work in my life this week?" Then we went into the church for a time of Adoration. During Adoration, there was a talk and the opportunity for confession. We finished with a time of sharing and praying together. It was beautiful and inspiring to see how many young adults came together to be with Jesus. We hope to go back!

St. Louis: Sr. Assumpta's Jubilee!

Sunday,
August 23:
We had a special Mass and dinner at our bookcenter for Sr. Assumpta's fiftieth anniversary of religious profession. One hundred people -- and seven priests! -- came to celebrate with us! We moved all the shelves of books into one corner, and set up chairs for Mass and tables for dinner. Many people helped us to prepare the bookcenter, the Mass, and the food. It was a wonderful celebration, and we really saw how people love our community and love Sr. Assumpta!

Happy Birthday to the Pauline Family!

Thursday,
August 20:

Today is the feast of St. Bernard. Maybe you wonder, why is St. Bernard important to the Pauline Family? The answer is that this feast is the birthday of the Pauline Family! On this day in 1914, Bl. James Alberione began the Society of St. Paul, the first of ten religious congregations, secular institutes, and lay associations that he would found.

Bl. Alberione says about the Pauline Family, "You were born of the Eucharist. Your food is the Eucharist. Your spirituality is the Gospel lived in its entirety as explained by St. Paul. Your mother and model is Mary."

Happy Birthday, Pauline Family! :)

Vocation Retreat in "The Windy City"

Monday,
August 10 -
Friday,
August 14
(Emily):
I was in Chicago all week to help with a young adult vocation retreat at our convent/ bookcenter. Four young women came to meet the sisters, learn more about religious life, and experience our mission. We began the week with a "contemplative walk" through the city -- we walked around the city two by two, contemplating people and asking ourselves the same question that Bl. James Alberione asked: "Where is humanity going?" We had a few classes (I gave a class on St. Paul!); we also had one day of silent retreat at a beautiful Byzantine Catholic church. On our last night together we went to the Chicago Art Institute. It was great to meet the young women, great to be with our sisters, and great to be in Chicago again!

P.S. Keep in touch! :)

Prayer for the Year of the Priest

As you may know, Pope Benedict XVI declared June 19, 2009 to June 19, 2010 the Year of the Priest. We are all invited to pray especially for our priests during this year. This is a prayer for priests written by the founder of the Daughters of St. Paul, Bl. James Alberione:

Jesus, Divine Master, I bless and thank your most loving Heart for the institution of the priesthood. Priests are sent by you, as you were sent by the Father. To them you entrusted the treasures of your doctrine, of your law, of your grace, and souls themselves. Grant me the grace to love them, listen to them, and let myself be guided by them in your ways. Jesus, send good laborers into your harvest. May priests be the salt which purifies and preserves; may they be the light of the world; may they be the city placed on the mountain. May they all be formed according to your heart. And one day in heaven, may they have around themselves, as a crown of joy, a multitude of conquered souls. Amen.

St. Louis: Postulants' Retreat

Monday,
July 27 -
Thursday,
July 30:
Sylwia, Emily, and Sr. Rebecca went to a retreat house in St. Louis for our postulants' retreat. During our four days there, we had time for prayer, spiritual direction, rest, and relaxation. The retreat house had a chapel with a beautiful Tabernacle, lots of space outside to walk or sit, and even a swimming pool! It was a beautiful time just to be with Jesus and be renewed in His love. We were praying for you!

Boston: Jubilee Celebration

Saturday,
July 25:
We had a special Mass in Boston to celebrate the jubilee anniversaries of some of our sisters! We have two sisters celebrating twenty-five years of religious profession, four sisters (including Sr. Assumpta from St. Louis!) celebrating fifty years, and one sister celebrating seventy years! All of these sisters and their guests gathered in Boston for a beautiful Mass offered by Fr. Jeffrey of the Society of St. Paul. After Mass there was a wonderful lunch!

P.S. Congratulations, dearest Sisters! Your example is inspiring!
